Hike For Hunger
2009-10-16
On the 16th of October it will once again be UN World Food Day. The most recent reports from the World Food Organisation (WFO) and the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) estimate that between April 2009 and March 2010, 2.8 million people will be suffering from food shortage in Zimbabwe.
In response to this alarming statistic, a global 'Hike for Hunger' initiative has been organised. Hikes are going to be taking place around the world in the days preceeding UN World Food Day in the following locations; Australia, United Kingdom, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The intention of these sponsored walks is to raise money for organisations providing food relief in Zimbabwe. To find out more please visit:

The United Kingdom team have chosen the Zimbabwe Benefit Foundation as their sponsored charity, and are hoping to raise £10,000 to go towards the Helping Hands seed pack project (details of which can be found on this site). The team are walking from the mouth of the Thames river in the Cotswolds in to central London, and are covering 180 miles in the process. If you would like to sponsor the team for undertaking this amazing endeavour, please visit:

Alternatively, if you would like to join the team at any point during their walk to support the initiative and to do your bit to raise awareness for Hike for Hunger then get in touch with them at: thamespath@hikeforhunger.org
The Zimbabwe Benefit Foundation is extremely grateful to have been selected as the UK Hike for Hunger's charity of choice, and hopes that this amazing event will raise much needed funds for Zimbabwe whilst putting hunger back on the agenda.
